» R-VA a new fractal parameter for grayscale image characterization

» Mircea-Sebastian Serbanescu and Iancu Emil Plesea

ABSTRACT:

Computing the fractal dimension (FD) of a grayscale image is not an easy task. We propose a new method for estimating the FD of a grayscale image, defined as the mean ratio between volume and amplitude (R-VA) at different image scales. The proposed algorithm is compared with a standard box-counting algorithm (applied to binarized images) on two image datasets: a texture dataset and a prostate cancer dataset (with Gleason grading labeled images). Results show that R-VA algorithm has better discriminating capabilities than the standard box-counting algorithm on both datasets.

» Touch Screen Technology Based on Acoustic Pulse Localization

» M. C. Nuwan and G. D. Illperuma

ABSTRACT:

In modern world touch screens are widely used as input interfaces. Most popular technologies such as capacitive touch screens and resistive touch screens require specially treated surfaces, which make them expensive and less suitable for larger screens. In this paper, a low cost acoustic pulse localization system based on the speed of the sound wave is presented. Unlike surface acoustic wave technology, only the acoustic wave created by the touch is used, making it more energy efficient and compact. An added advantage is its possibility to convert surfaces of many homogeneous materials to touch screens by the placement of several piezoelectric sensors.

» Management Planning of Domestic Wastes

» Abdelkader Benzohra and Myriam Noureddine

ABSTRACT:

Nowadays high consumption societies are producing a large amount of waste. This great potential of resources is usually underestimated and the recovered quantities remain very low. Moreover, waste management costs exceed commonly the financial capacity of municipalities, and environmental problems still exist. Some studies were carried out on waste management, but many of them were descriptive, not realistic or oriented to only one issue at time like costs. In this paper we propose a multicriteria planning model of domestic waste management. Our approach consists in ranking a set of candidate management plans using ELECTRE III method. Fourteen of sustainable development criteria are simultaneously considered, to set an outranking relation between these management plans, taking into account critical aspect of some critical criteria. This model is applied on real case study.

» Construction of Orthogonal Array-based Latin Hypercube Designs for Deterministic Computer Experiments

» Kazeem A. Osuolale, Waheed B. Yahya and Babatunde L. Adeleke

ABSTRACT:

In this work, orthogonal array-based Latin hypercube designs (OALHDs) for eight input variables deterministic computer experiments was proposed. The proposed class of designs has some merits over the random Latin hypercube design with respect to space-filling properties. In this study, a computer program was written to construct OALHDs. Orthogonal arrays (OAs) were generated following a mathematical theorem called Bush Construction Type I and the OAs constructed were subsequently used to construct the desired orthogonal array-based Latin hypercube designs which was used in the development of deterministic computer experiments. The OALHDs constructed have some space-filling properties and they can be used to develop a computer experiment. A MATLAB program was written to construct the design.

» Modeling Nonlinear Dynamical Systems

» A. A. Akintunde, S. O. N. Agwuegbo, O. E. Asiribo, M.A. Waheed and O. M. Olayiwola

ABSTRACT:

The study of stochastic phenomena has increased dramatically and intensified research activity in this area has been stimulated by the need to take into account random effects in complicated dynamical systems. Dynamical systems are ubiquitous and are considered to be stochastic processes. In this study, a nonlinear dynamical system was modeled as a solution to an Ito stochastic differential equation dx(t)=f(x(t),t)dt+g(x(t),t)dW(t) where W(t) denotes a Wiener or Brownian motion process while f and g are deterministic functions. The Ito Stochastic Differential Equation was applied to characterize the important functional of the solution process in some intervals [0,t],X(t) which satisfies the integral equation, X(t)=X(0)+∫f(s,X(s))ds+∫g(s,X(s))dW(s). The solution of the integral equation is a Lagenvin equation which is an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (O-U) process dXt=α(Θ-Xt)dt+σdWt. The O-U process which is a Gaussian process was related to the world of time series analysis. The model was applied to Nigerian monetary exchange rate and compared with the existing models of monetary exchange rate. R package and the Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) were used to provide the model of best fit for the Nigerian monetary exchange rate as an autoregressive moving average of order one which is given to be St=(0.4287St-1)+(0.2099et-1)+et. The results obtained revealed that the structural diffusion model approach gives a first-order autoregressive moving average process in continuous time with differentiation in continuous time corresponding to differencing in discrete time. The derived structural diffusion model has the least AIC value of 1482.61 as compared to the AIC value of 2198.86 from the existing diffusion and normal models.

» Multi-Bandwidth Data Path Design for Multi Streaming In 5G Wireless Mobile Internets

» Lal Said, Syed Ali Haider, Saira Charan and Mehmood Ul Hassan

ABSTRACT:

Wireless communication’s users are increasing day by day as the people are most socially connected with each other. There are number of different issues which are integrated with wireless mobile Internets. Many research studies have been conducted in the areas of wireless communication to make it more efficient and delivery quality to the consumer. This paper explores future mobile systems with Multi-bandwidth data path design approach to enhance the experience of the 5G wireless mobile Internets. The proposed solution presented in this research helped in minimizing the Buzzing and lag during the processing of the video and audio streaming. The proposed solution can provide high streaming Speed by the help of the Multi-bandwidth data path design and help in overall minimizing the time delay. The presented solution has been tested on both technologies 4G and 5G.

» Methods of Diagnosis of Intestinal Polyps with Software Applications in Wireless Capsule Endoscopy

ABSTRACT:

Wireless capsule endoscopy is a modern imaging technique used for the overall investigation of the gastrointestinal tract, indicated for the detection of occult gastrointestinal bleeding, polyps, Chron’s disease, tumours or other lesions. Among those, polyps represent a category of lesions difficult to discriminate from the normal mucosa. Most of the algorithms proposed for automatic polyp detection relay on retrieving geometric details, followed by a textural analysis of the detected region, most of the times combined with the corresponding colour analysis (with a smaller weight), and a subsequent classification either on particular regions or the entire image. Usually, all image descriptors are involved in the decision making, for which several learning / decision algorithms are employed. The entire process is developed according to the human analysis process, but it takes into account the powerful computation capabilities of nowadays computers and processing algorithms.

» Comparison Between Surgical and Non-Surgical Methods for the Treatment of Mandibular Fractures

» Horaţiu Urechescu, Marius Pricop, Simona Apostol and Corina Vernic

ABSTRACT:

The mandible is the most common fractured bone of the facial skeleton. The aim of the study is to make an analysis mainly regarding the two options of treatment, the surgical and non-surgical methods. The study included all 65 patients (mean age 32.08±15.024 years) who were treated for mandible fractures within Timisoara’s Department of Maxillofacial Surgery in 2013. Considering the current social and economical context we thought that a cost analysis of the two methods of treatment is useful. We took in consideration the days of hospitalization and the hospitalization cost.
